Tattoo The Earth Shuffles Bands As Tour Kicks Off

As Tattoo The Earth's maiden voyage launched over the weekend, the festival found itself juggling bands yet again as Latin rockers Puya dropped off the tour while Los Angeles' Spineshank has stepped in.

As we previously reported, Slipknot, Slayer, Sevendust, and the rest of the Tattoo pack were to be joined by Soulfly, who left the tour for the headlining spot on Ozzfest's second stage in May (see [article id="1432184"]"Ministry Out, Soulfly In For Ozzfest"[/article]). More recently, Coal Chamber dropped off the tour last week to begin work on its third album (see [article id="1427175"]"Coal Chamber Drops Off "Tattoo" Tour"[/article]).

Now, a spokesperson for Puya's record label, MCA Records, says that that band has pulled out of the tour for the same reason. MCA says that the group has been held up in the Vancouver, Canada studio where the band is recording its sophomore effort with producer Garth (GGGarth) Richardson and will not

be able to make the tour.

Perhaps consequently, Roadrunner Records has announced that Spineshank is the latest addition to the Tattoo roster, as the band will give fans a taste of their upcoming fall release, "The Height Of Callousness," on the tour.

The lineup changes didn't seem to hamper the tour's launch on Saturday in Portland, Oregon as some 16,000 fans descended on the Portland Meadows Amphitheater to sample the tour's celebration of heavy music and body art.

Saturday's show found Tattoo The Earth teaming with KUFO-FM's annual Rockfest, bringing Stone Temple Pilots to the bill. However, for most in attendance, the day was all about Slipknot and Slayer, as many heavy-minded concertgoers were headed for the exits by the time STP took the stage to cap the evening.

I'm here to see Slayer, and Slayer only. I'm leaving as soon as they're done," Tattoo ticketholder John Pritchard said, summing up the sentiments of many on hand Saturday. "I can't believe they're

not headlining.

The Tattoo The Earth trek now rolls on to Lawrence, Kansas on Tuesday before staging another high-profile gig on Thursday when the tour meets up with Metallica for one night only at East Rutherford, New Jersey's Giants Stadium (see [article id="1432058"]"Metallica, Puya, More To 'Tattoo'"[/article]).
