'Avengers' Coulson-Vision Theory 'Doesn't Feel Right,' Marvel CCO Says

If you're a fan of those "Agent Coulson is the Vision" rumors stemming from "Avengers," you'll want to turn away now: someone very high up at Marvel doesn't think you're on the right track.

At the Kapow! Comic Convention in London over the weekend, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada was asked about his thoughts on the popular theory, which posits that everyone's favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. agent will make a surprise appearance in a future Marvel movie as the android known as Vision.

"The fans desire for him to become the Vision? I dunno man, it doesn't feel right," was his answer to the theory, according to the good folks at Comic Book Movie.

"That's strictly just fan speak," he continued. "I don't know where that came from. I heard that for the first time yesterday. So, nah… no comment!"

I wouldn't get too downhearted just yet, Coulson-Vision fans. First of all, if we're on the right track, then it behooves Joe to downplay the rumor for now until there's something a bit more concrete to discuss. Also, note that he shoots down the idea of Coulson "[becoming] the Vision," not Clark Gregg becoming the Vision. I'm still of the mind that if this theory pans out, it won't be some sort of Coulson-consciousness transfer, but the arrival of an android who is based on the voice and likeness of the deceased S.H.I.E.L.D. officer. So even if Quesada is being truthful in his assessment, there's still a workaround here.

Also… even if it is just a fan theory, it's a damn good one, a creative way to reintroduce a fan-favorite actor into the Marvel universe while still honoring the impact of his character's on-screen death. When it comes to Coulson-Vision, if Marvel isn't already planning something, I sincerely hope they perk their ears up and start listening to the fans: they're onto something here.
