Nas Holds On To Top Of Album Chart As "Matrix" Surges

Nas won't have to fend off much competition to keep his spot atop the "Billboard" album chart next week.

According to Soundscan sales figures released on Wednesday, Nas, TLC, and Britney Spears will all hold on to their respective spots in the top three on next week's chart.

After selling more than 470,000 copies in its first week, Nas' "I Am" sold another 206,000 copies in week two to hold on to the top spot.

The most serious assault on the top ten comes from the soundtrack to the runaway sci-fi hit "The Matrix." The album (which includes cuts from Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Ministry, Deftones, and others) rides a sales boost from number nine to number seven this week. Godsmack's self-titled album also gets a sales shot in the arm from 46 to 28 next week, and Kid Rock takes a leap as well from 63 to 36.

The week's biggest debut will belong to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, whose "Echo" lands at number 10 in its first week on the chart. Other notable debuts

will come from Bruce Springsteen ("18 Tracks" at number 64), Mike Ness ("Cheating At Solitaire" at 80), Underworld ("Beaucoup Fish" at 93), Staind ("Dysfunction" at 173), and Rick Springfield ("Karma" at 189).
