James Blunt Finally Getting Love From Americans -- But Not Mischa Barton

British singer/songwriter plays ex-boyfriend of 'O.C.' actress in 'Goodbye My Lover' video.

LOS ANGELES -- James Blunt has England's bestselling album of 2005, recently won Best New Act at the MTV Europe Video Awards and just shot a video starring Mischa Barton of "The O.C." as the love interest. So what's he got to complain about?

Well, Mischa doesn't play his love interest.

"It's about the ex [girlfriend]," Blunt said of "Goodbye My Lover" at the American Music Awards last month (see [article id="1514422"]"Will Smith Beats 50 Cent, Kelly Rowland Flies Solo At American Music Awards"[/article]). "That means I didn't get to make out with Mischa. She made out with someone else for the entire video, so poor me."

So far the "Goodbye My Lover" clip is only slated to hit overseas outlets, although a spokesperson for Blunt's label said it will likely see a Stateside release.

In the meantime, Blunt, who was discovered by producer Linda Perry and signed to her record label, is finishing his first U.S. tour with a December 6 appearance on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien."

British-born Blunt actually recorded his album Back to Bedlam in Los Angeles, but it was released in the U.K. in October 2004, a full year before its American release. The LP is just picking up steam in the States thanks to the single "You're Beautiful." Critics have likened the singer/songwriter's style to the late Elliott Smith, as well as fellow Englishman David Gray.

"Things have happened for a while in the U.K. and the rest of the world, so it's great to come to a fresh new audience and get that kind of genuine reaction again," Blunt said of his Stateside trek. "I've been really enjoying playing to fresh ears."
