Seth Rogen's 'Sausage Party' Is The R-Rated 'Toy Story' You Never Knew You Needed

Watch the trailer for Rogen's raunchy, R-rated animated flick

All Pixar films start with a simple question. What if your toys came alive when you weren't looking? What if the monsters hiding in your closet were actually real? What if dinosaurs never became extinct?

Now, a new animated film asks, What if the products you buy in the grocery store had feelings? Except, this film isn't Pixar. In fact, it's a raunchy, R-rated CG animated movie from Seth Rogen and the brilliant minds that brought you Pineapple Express, This Is The End, and Neighbors.

Featuring an all-star voice cast that includes Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, and Edward Norton (just to name a few), Sausage Party follows one brave sausage (voiced by Rogen) leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store.

The supermarket products believe people to be gods who are taking them off to a glorious life when they leave the store. However, certain horrific circumstances lead a sausage, a bun, and assorted other products, including a neurotic bagel voiced by Norton, to begin to doubt this.

Sausage Party made a splashy debut at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival on March 14, where Rogen and his producing partner Evan Goldberg presented a "work-in-progress" screening of the film. Critics are already comparing the riotous film to recent box office success story, Deadpool, saying it could be a game-changer for R-rated animation. (Somewhere, Charlie Kaufman is rolling his eyes.)

And in case you weren't already sold on Rogen's Sausage Party, the villain of the film is a douche -- the actual feminine-hygiene product.
