The Verve Get Charitable With "Bittersweet" Sneaker Money

The Verve has announced that two British charities will get the band's earnings from that sneaker commercial that uses the band's hit "Bittersweet Symphony.

The British Red Cross Landmine Appeal and N.C.H. Action For Children (which aims to help homeless youth) will receive the Verve's earnings, which amounts to about $175,000.

Other earnings from the single go to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and onetime Rolling Stones manager Allen Klein, who controls the publishing on an old orchestral version of the Stones tune "The Last Time" which The Verve sampled for "Bittersweet Symphony.

The Verve has asked Jagger and Richards to give their earnings from the ad to charity as well, but there's no response yet from the Stones camp.
