Hilary Duff Tells Us Why One Scene In 'Younger' Nearly Made Her Throw Up

'It makes me sick just thinking about it,' she said.

Hilary Duff is all grown up and talking Diva Cups with MTV News.

Okay, so it's not like we asked the 27-year-old actress about Diva Cups out of the blue. (And if you don't know what a Diva Cup is, please consult Google.) In her new TV Land series "Younger" -- premiering tonight (March 31) on TV Land -- there's a particularly memorable scene in which Sutton Foster's character Liza, a middle-aged woman pretending to be 26 to land a job in publishing, performs a "Diva Cup extraction" for Duff's character Kelsey, Liza's young co-worker and new bestie.

If it sounds like something you think you've seen before, that's because you kinda have. "Sex and the City" had a similar scene between Carrie and Samantha involving a very stubborn diaphragm. And it all makes sense once you realize that Darren Star is the mastermind behind both shows.

"It's capturing women in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s, so it really has a lot in it for everyone," Duff, 27, told MTV News. "It's fun for me because I didn't have a totally normal 20s experience. And Kelsey is! She definitely parties and she goes out and has a good time, but she works her ass off. She's very driven. A lot of young people are getting ahead these days very quickly, knowing what they want to do. I love that. That's what your 20s are all about -- rolling into work with a massive hangover but still working really hard to keep your position."

If your 20s included selling your underwear on Craigslist for money, going out in Brooklyn, hooking up with a hot tattoo artist, having an affair with a client and living with your best friend's parents, then "Younger" is the show for you. The characters are more likable than their hipster counterparts on HBO's "Girls," and their actions are much more endearing.

Playing a 26-year-old young career woman shouldn't be too much of a stretch for Duff. The former teen idol has been working since she was just a kid, starring in the Disney Channel's hit show "Lizzie McGuire" before taking her talents to the big screen in films like "Cheaper By The Dozen" and "Cinderella Story." Of course, being a twentysomething in Hollywood isn't anything like the real thing, so even Duff had some things to learn from her Taylor-Swift-quoting character Kelsey.

"I didn't know what a Diva Cup was!" she said. "So that was definitely an eye-opener. I had a lot of questions at first. I walked into the writers' room where the writers were breaking down storylines for me, and they brought up the Diva Cup. And I was like, 'What is that?' Once they told me, I had even more questions. What do you do with it once you're done? And one of the writers is like, 'Oh, you just put it in the dishwasher. I swear I almost threw up.' I cannot deal with that!"
