Singer/guitarist "Lonesome" Dave Peverett, of the '70s blues-rock band Foghat, died Monday morning (Feb. 7) in Orlando, Fla., of complications due to cancer. He was 57. Peverett began his musical career with British blues band Savoy Brown in the late '60s. He moved to the U.S. in 1971 and formed Foghat with the bassist and drummer from Savoy Brown. Famous for his blues-inspired vocals on such songs as "Slow Ride," Peverett led his band to a series of hit albums in the 1970s, including Energized (1974) and Rock and Roll Outlaws (1974). The band broke up in 1983 but reunited in 1989, touring sporadically since then until fall 1999. Peverett was diagnosed with cancer in 1998.
