Tool's Maynard To Roll Out "Perfect Circle" At Coachella

Tool fans heading to Indio, California next month to see the band cap off the two-day Coachella festival may want to get there a day early.

While the progressive hard rockers will co-headline the second night of the show on October 10 (along with Rage Against The Machine), Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan will take the Coachella stage on October 9 with his side project, A Perfect Circle. Keenan has been singing with the group off and on for close to six months, and began playing out with A Perfect Circle two weeks ago.

Beck, the Chemical Brothers, Perry Farrell, Morrissey, Bis, Underworld, and dozens of others will also play the first day of Coachella, kicking off a bill that will see Ben Harper, Pavement, Cibo Matto, Money Mark, Moby, and more wrap things up the following day.

While the band is playing one-offs here and there for now, A Perfect Circle hopes to record, and has been has been talking to Tool's label, Volcano, about a potential timetable for a release.

The group hopes to steer clear of Tool's still-in-the-works fourth album to avoid scheduling conflicts with Maynard and also to help the project be seen as a stand-alone band and not simply as a diversion for the singer.

As for Tool, the band is still writing and arranging material for its eagerly anticipated follow up to 1996's "Aenima." The group hopes to hit the studio before the end of the year.
