Master P is taking on the classic story of "Romeo and Juliet," but instead of star-crossed lovers, they'll be star-crossed lil's.
"Lil' Romeo and Lil' Juliet" is coming to the big screen with -- of course -- the rapper's son Lil' Romeo playing the title character.
P will produce the movie with Mark Canton ("Angel Eyes," "Get Carter") for MGM, a spokesperson for the studio said Thursday (October 3).
The script, penned by newcomer Dallas Jackson, will put a teenage hip-hop twist on Shakespeare's timeless love story.
MGM and the producers are launching a nationwide search to cast Lil' Juliet for the movie, which also does not yet have a director.
"Lil' Romeo and Lil' Juliet" will go into production later this year after Romeo is finished shooting the dance movie "Honey" with Jessica Alba (see [article id="1456223"]"Jessica Alba Flashdances, Sneaks A Taste Of 'Honey' "[/article]).
Lil' Romeo recently shot a pilot with his father for "Pieces of the Puzzle," a "Partridge Family"-like show for Nickelodeon. He's also scheduled to star in "Shorties," an urban take on "E.T." that Master P is also producing, according to a spokesperson for both rappers (see [article id="1452489"]"Shorty Phone Home: Master P Developing Sci-Fi Flick For Romeo"[/article]).
When he is not acting, the hardest working lil' in show business will be promoting Game Time, the follow-up to his platinum self-titled debut, due December 17 on No Limit Records.
Romeo recently shot a video for the album's second single, "True Love," which features Solange Knowles, Beyoncé's sister. The first single, "2Way," was released over the summer and is currently being distributed at McDonald's restaurants.
The rapper, who appears on Corey's current hit "Hush Lil' Lady," has also recorded a song called "Tell Me a Story" with Hilary Duff, star of Disney's "Lizzie McGuire," for her holiday album, Santa Claus Lane, due October 15.
Following in his father's footsteps, Romeo also just launched his own clothing line, P. Miller Shorties. While the brand is available only at Mervyn's stores for the time being, Romeo is planning to expand into other outlets next year.
