'Grease' Actress Annette Charles Dead at Age 63

Annette Charles, who rose to fame thanks to one of the most celebrated dance sequences in film history, has died according to a report on TMZ.

Though Charles has been retired from acting for over two decades, generations of fans continue to swoon over her "Grease" character Cha Cha DiGregorio; in one of the most famous moments from the beloved 1978 musical, Charles steps in as John Travolta's partner to win a nationally televised dance contest.

Charles, who reportedly was suffering from lung cancer, was 63.

Charles, who was born in Los Angeles, earned her first television role at the age of 20 and soon became a TV staple, appearing in numerous shows throughout the 1970's before jumping to the big screen for "Grease." Despite her success, however, Charles left the industry in the 80's in order to study social work and later became a university professor.
