Billy Zoom Returns To X, In Talks To Play Warped

Acclaimed L.A. punk outfit X is set to play its first show with original guitarist Billy Zoom since 1985 with a sold out show at San Francisco's Trocadero on February 7.

There have been reports that the Trocadero gig could lead to a full-blown tour, and a spokesperson for the Warped tour confirms that the band is in talks to join confirmed Warped acts Bad Religion and NOFX on select dates of this summer's tour. The spokesperson notes however that X's involvement has not been confirmed yet.

The overseas leg of the Warped tour kicked off earlier this month in Australia with 311, Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Blink 182, and more. The tour, currently in Japan, is scheduled to end in Hawaii this weekend.

X is also set to play a show at the Los Angeles Palladium on February 28.

The original killer lineup ["Hungry Wolf" 600k QuickTime] of X consisted of Exene Cervenka on vocals, her husband John

Doe on bass and vocals, D.J. Bonebreak on drums, and Billy Zoom on lead guitar. Zoom left the band in 1985 and was replaced by Blasters guitarist Dave Alvin. They added guitarist Tony Gilkyson, formerly of Lone Justice, the following year. When Alvin left a year after that, Gilkyson stayed with the band. X went on a hiatus late in the 1980's and Cervenka and Doe pursued solo careers. The band reunited in 1990 (minus Zoom) but then packed it in again in 1996.
