Ryan Gosling: 'Only God Forgives' is Like a Video Game

Ahhh, Gosling — sweet, sweet Gosling. There are normal humans and then there's the beautiful Ryan Gosling (honestly, who needs friends when you look that good)?
Gosling took a few minutes out of his busy schedule of, ya know, being hot, to chat with MTV News' Josh Horowitz about his new film "Only God Forgives," directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (responsible for the also Gosling-filled, oddly silent "Drive"), and according to him, it's a lot like "Grand Theft Auto." Yep.
In the movie, Gosling plays Julian, a drug smuggler who goes on a bloody, gritty mission to avenge his murdered brother. Like "Drive," "Only God Forgives" has a similar polarizing mentality, chock-full of the brooding makes-you-bonkers intensity of a Refn-Gosling collaboration. Gosling was excited to return to the madness again, even though he claims Refn could have traded in his indie cred for "Pacific Rim"-sized blockbusters.
"He [Refn] had a lot of options after 'Drive,' and there's a lot of, you know, big names and budgets being thrown around, and he still sort of opted to go and make this, which was pretty small in comparison, very personal," Gosling told MTV.
So, what can fans expect if they check out "Only God Forgives?" Well, it's a little bit like a video game, according to the Gos.
"Like, you know, in a game like 'Grand Theft Auto.' Like, if you don't play the game, you can still, you can cause an accident," Gosling told Horowitz. "The extras in the game are still walking around in their little computer lives, and you can just follow them around."
Gosling will be taking the remote control himself — puns, puns everywhere! — when he makes his directorial debut in "How to Catch a Monster" (which he also wrote, his perfection only intensifying) due out next year. But does he pull an Alfred Hitchcock and make an appearance in the film?
"I might have wandered into a shot somehow," he said. Hey girl ... we sure hope he did.
"Only God Forgives" hits theaters this Friday, July 19.
