Demi Lovato Reveals She Turned To Drugs And Alcohol Before Seeking Help

In a new interview with Seventeen magazine, Demi Lovato admits to self-medicating as a way to deal with the depression and eating disorder issues she faced in 2010. "I’m not going to lie, I was self-medicating. I was doing things like drinking and using [drugs], like a lot of teens do to numb their pain," Lovato says in the January issue.

Lovato completed treatment at an Illinois rehabilitation center in January 2011 for emotional and physical issues later revealed to be anorexia, bulimia, and bipolar disorder. The "Skyscraper" singer returned to the facility in early December as a speaker. "Wow what an inspiring day ... Many tears were shed and many memories were brought back at Timberline Knolls today," she tweeted. "Today I went back to the treatment center I went to last year to speak to the beautiful women fighting their inner demons. Was so honored."

Lovato says that friends Cyrus and Selena Gomez have been an important part of her recovery, acting as a support system during her tougher times. "There are two people that no matter how many times we fight, we will always be in each other’s lives. [Miley Cyrus and I] are strong-headed. Selena [Gomez] and I, we never fight."

And apparently a fight with Miley is serious business! "When we fight it's brutal and we're like, 'We're never going to be friends again!'" she tells the mag. "Then two days later, were like, 'I love you and I miss you!'"
