Godsmack To Spearhead Soundtrack For Next 'Mummy' Film

Disturbed, Sevendust, Methods of Mayhem to contribute tracks.

Now that Godsmack have finished touring for Awake, you'd think they'd be looking forward to some serious rest — especially since vocalist Sully Erna and his wife are expecting their first child next month.

But before Erna can shop for diapers and baby toys he's got to finish working on the soundtrack for "The Scorpion King," the third installment of "The Mummy" series, which comes out next spring. Erna was contacted recently by director Chuck Russell and asked to contribute new Godsmack material and help pick bands for the film.

To date, Disturbed, Sevendust and Methods of Mayhem have agreed to provide tracks for the record. The Sevendust song likely will be a previously unreleased outtake from their Animosity sessions and the Methods of Mayhem cut probably will be new as well, said Erna, who remains unsure whether the Disturbed track will be new or previously released.

The Godsmack frontman is currently trying to recruit Metallica, Incubus and A Perfect Circle for the soundtrack as well, though he has yet to receive confirmation from any of the three bands.

"We're also gonna reach out to a bunch more bands," he said Thursday. "I was hoping to get Stone Temple Pilots involved and maybe Nine Inch Nails and the guys in Staind, who we're really good friends with. I've just been thinking of the bands I enjoy listening to most. I want to build something from the best of the best rock bands today and put out an amazing soundtrack."

Bands that agree to be on the soundtrack have until mid-December to submit their tracks.
