The four New York Philharmonic members will play jazz composer's work.

The American Saxophone Quartet, the saxophone section of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, are playing hooky for a night at the Eastman School of Music's Kilbourn Hall in New York on Tuesday (April 18).

Albert Regni (soprano), David Demsey (alto), David Carroll (tenor) and Lino Gomez (baritone) will perform Ramon Ricker's Three Jazz Settings for Saxophone Quartet, among other pieces. Before the 8 p.m. performance, the Quartet will hold an open rehearsal and master class in Kilbourn Hall from 5:30 p.m.–7 p.m. They also will answer questions from the audience.

Saxophonists are invited to attend, at no fee, while the non-sax-playing public will be charged. The ASQ have recorded two CDs, Spanning the River and Gandy Dancer, on the Sons of Sound label. The Quartet are currently recording their next CD, which will include clarinetists Larry Combs (Chicago Symphony Orchestra), Paquito D'Rivera and Eddie Daniels.
