The weekend screenings of the controversial documentary "Kurt and Courtney" broke all house-records at San Francisco's Roxie art-house cinema, according to Roxie publicist Elliot Lavine. British filmmaker Nick Broomfield's biopic, which Hole singer Courtney Love's reps have tried to stop from screening, paints an unflattering portrait of the late Nirvana leader's wife, Love, while calling into question the facts surrounding Cobain's 1994 shotgun suicide. "The overall reaction from the crowd was favorable," reported Lavine, who added that the three-day weekend gross was the highest in the theater's 22 years ... The release of Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland's debut solo album, Twelve Bar Blues, has been pushed back several weeks to March 31 ...

Southern California punkers Bad Religion will headline a series of 10 extremely rare club shows in advance of the release of their upcoming 16-track album, No Substance (May 5). The group, which is headlining this summer's skate-n-punk Warped tour, will play such intimate clubs as San Francisco's Bottom of the Hill and Anaheim, Calif.'s Linda's Doll Hut, with its 175-person capacity. The first single from No Substance will be "Shades of Truth" ... Respect is Burning is the name of a compilation of French electronic-dance and house tracks that's set for release March 10. The album, inspired by the Parisian club of the same name, will feature tracks from artists such as Dimitri From Paris, Etienne de Crecy, Motorbass and Francois Kevorkian ...

Former Nitzer Ebb leader Bon Harris is working on material for his new project, Maven, when he's not busy in the studio with the Smashing Pumpkins, who are working on their upcoming album, Adore (late May). Joining industrial-dance veteran Harris in Maven is John Napier of Ethyl Meatplow and possibly Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan and producer Flood (U2), according to Harris' publicist, Jenny Bendel ... San Francisco noise-pop band Track Star have just released their full-length debut, Communication Breaks, on the Die Young Stay Pretty label ...

Although promoters for this year's Further Festival are hesitant to hype it

as a "reunion," the summer tour will feature a reconvening of key members of the

Grateful Dead under the band name the Other Ones, according

to the San Francisco Chronicle. Dead members Bob Weir,

Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart will be joined by occasional

collaborator Bruce Hornsby, plus guitarist Stan Franks, sax

player Dave Ellis and drummer John Molo. The group will perform Dead songs, according to Hart. "We're going to reinterpret this music," Hart said. The outing marks the first tour by the band since the death of guitarist Jerry Garcia in 1995 ...

Conscious soul songstress Erykah Badu was one of the big winners at the 12th annual Soul Train Music Awards on Friday in Los Angeles. Badu won awards for Best R&B/Soul/Rap Album for her debut, Baduizm; Best R&B/Soul Single for "On & On"; R&B/Soul Album, Female; and best New R&B/Soul/Rap artist. Best R&B/Soul Album, Male went to the late rapper Notorious B.I.G., while Best R&B/Soul Album for a Duo or Group went to Dru Hill, and vocal diva Whitney Houston picked up an Outstanding Career Achievement award. Metal-punk rockers Korn will debut their weekly Internet variety program on March 5, an effort they're calling "Korn's After-School Special." The hour-long show, which will be available at the group's revamped website (www.korntv.com), will begin every Thursday at 4:30 p.m. PST and be hosted by a different guest each week. The group intends to showcase new songs from its in-progress third album, as well as variety-show-style vignettes, special guests, live chats and video segments from the bandmembers ...

Brit-rockers The Verve will release a limited-edition, four-track EP in the U.S. of their breakthrough hit "Bitter Sweet Symphony" on March 10 that will feature three songs recorded during the sessions for their Urban Hymns album: "Lord I Guess I'll Never Know," "So Sister" and "Echo Bass." The songs were previously available on the European singles for "Symphony" ... Former Sepultura singer Max Cavalera has re-emerged after leaving the Brazilian hard-rock band last year with his new group, Soulfly. profits -- about $175,000 -- from the use of "Bitter Sweet Symphony" in a

Featuring remixes of the singles from the group's debut album, Let the Freak Flag Fly, it gathers four versions of "La La La" by Bass leader Mike Kandel, a "Gimme Another One of Those Bong Breakin' Hippie Beats" mix by Tranquility Bass and a "Skull Valley High Desert Funk" mix by Tom Chasteen, as well as a mix by fellow electronic artist Fatboy Slim. Organizers are denying that a benefit concert honoring the late Princess Diana is having trouble getting big-name acts to perform, according to Reuters. Although the event has thus far gotten commitments from British pop stars Cliff Richard, Chris de Burgh and bubblegum-pop band Wet Wet Wet, Elton John, George Michael and Eric Clapton have sent word that they will not be able to play the show due to previous commitments. John's tribute to Diana, "Candle in the Wind '97," is the biggest-selling single of all time. According to Reuters, the concert is currently slated to take place in June at Althorp Park, the final resting place for the late Princess, who died in a car crash last summer. Fleetwood Mac leader Mick Fleetwood said he is currently close to a deal with a record label to launch his Fleetwood Music, which will produce new artists and release catalogue material from Fleetwood Mac and other vintage bands. He recently served as executive producer of Legacy: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, which Lava/Atlantic is set to release on March 17.
