From Ansel Elgort to Dylan O'Brien — 9 Scruffy-Looking Nerfherders Who Could Be Young Han Solo

Time to up your nerfherder game, boys.

Wanted: An actor to play a young Han Solo in the upcoming "Star Wars" spinoff film, not set to be released until May, 2018.

Applicants: According to The Hollywood Reporter, pretty much every white dude in Hollywood between the ages of 16-ish and 36-ish.

Qualifications: Reportedly, the actor in question should look kinda, sorta like original Han Solo Harrison Ford, be able to pull off that trademark snark, and be ready for all of those action scenes that will no doubt be required of our young hero. But, let's get real. We're looking for someone who, roughly, fits this description...

Here are nine scruffy and/or nerfherder-like actors who we think could fill the iconic role...

Ansel Elgort

Best known for his role as the wise-beyond-his-years Augustus Waters in "The Fault in Our Stars," Ansel would be a great choice for a young Han Solo. Not only does the 21-year-old actor look kind of like Harrison Ford, but he totally has the sarcasm thing down. And his hair is totally scruffy.

Dylan O'Brien

Can we throw Dylan O'Brien's hat into the ring on his behalf? The 24-year-old star has proven just how funny and heartbreaking he can be on "Teen Wolf," but also broke out his action star chops for "The Maze Runner" film trilogy. Han Solo/Harrison Ford's defining characteristic might be his specific brand of charm. That's a quality Dylan totally has, and a quality it's really hard to teach. Oh, and also he totally can nail "Chewie, we're home," so there's that.

Miles Teller might not have had the best luck with "Fantastic Four" (to be fair, who did?), but the 28-year-old actor has shown both his action chops in movies like "Divergent" and his acting chops in indie flicks like "The Spectacular Now." And, like the other actors on this list, he knows how to deliver a deadpan quip.

Colton Haynes

Here's another "Teen Wolf" alum who we think would be great for the role. Colton has done all manner of action in his role on "Teen Wolf," as well as in "Arrow" as Roy Harper, but we think his star-making role is still ahead of him. He's not very scruffy, but — he did grow up on a farm — so he is basically a nerfherder.

Sam Claflin

OK, so he doesn't really look like Harrison Ford. But he doesn't not look like Harrison Ford either. Also, he's British. But these are small obstacles to overcome and we have enough love for this 29-year-old actor who played Finnick in "The Hunger Games" film franchise to do it. Besides, any actor who can pull off the above outfit can do anything.

Anthony Ingruber

It's hard not to include Anthony Ingruber on this list. The 25-year-old actor was cast as a young Harrison Ford in "Age of Adaline" because of the Harrison Ford impressions he posted on YouTube. Though he's yet to prove his mettle in a leading role, it might be more interesting if "Star Wars" casts a relative unknown for the role.

Nat Wolff

Nat stole our hearts in both his supporting role in "The Fault in Our Stars" and his leading role in "Paper Towns." The 20-year-old is also a talented musician, which could help us realize our dream of a Han Solo Sings Karaoke at the Mos Eisley Cantina Scene. (Don't pretend you don't want it.)

Liam Hemsworth

Liam Hemsworth

Neither nerfherder nor scruffy, Liam Hemsworth might not be the most natural choice for the job, but he did a great job with the role of Gale in "The Hunger Games" franchise and the 25-year-old Aussie definitely has the physicality for the job. We'd love to see someone give him a chance to play more witty humor, and Young Han Solo would do just that.

Tom Felton

We love us some "Harry Potter," but we're more than ready to see Tom front the cast of a major Hollywood blockbuster as a (mostly) nice guy. Following the "Harry Potter" flicks, Tom has mostly been cast in the bad guy roles — and he does them so well — but we think there's a stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerfherder in there somewhere.
