R. Kelly performed a heartfelt rendition of "I Look to You" at Whitney Houston's funeral today. Appearing somber in a suit at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, Kelly belted out the song which he initially penned for Whitney's 2009 album I Look to You. With lyrics like "I look to you/After all my strength is gone/In you I can be strong…I look to you/And when melodies are gone/In you I hear a song", the bittersweet song felt especially fitting for the occasion.

Family, Friends Prepare To Wave Goodbye To Whitney Houston

Despite Kelly's beleaguered public persona, most fans overwhelming supported his appearance. They took to Twitter to share sentiments like "Ok R. Kelly just broke me down cause that song he wrote for Whitney Houston personally... #soemotional", "R. Kelly left his heart up there. That was a send off. The professional pull-thru was everything. I saw him struggling. #whitneyhouston" and "just when you think the crying is over, r Kelly S A N G S that song."

Kelly joined a host of other singers like Stevie Wonder, BeBe Winans, Alicia Keys and CeCe Winans who shared their own songs of remembrance for Whitney. The funeral service, dubbed a homegoing, has been underway since late morning. Set in Whitney's home church, where she grew up singing in the choir, it has been a celebration of Whitney's life and her deep roots in the church.
