Christina Aguilera Pulls Out Of Shows Due To Illness

Christina Aguilera has canceled several concert appearances, including a radio festival in Chicago on Friday (October 27) and a private Disney Channel event in New York on Saturday, as the singer and several members of her touring entourage are ill.

RCA Records publicist Pamela Murphy said that Aguilera was diagnosed with a viral syndrome associated with exudative tonsillitis by doctors in Hawaii, where the singer has been holed up since completing her fall tour following an October 21 show in Honolulu.

Aguilera isn't the only member of her touring crew to get bitten by the flulike bug, Murphy said; at least nine others on the tour have come down with similar symptoms.

Aguilera's condition has caused her to abandon plans to perform at the annual B-96 Boo Bash in Chicago on Friday, and the singer has also nixed her appearance with British pop trio BBMak for a promotional show at the ESPN Zone in Times Square.

A performance on the "Live With Regis"

morning show scheduled for Thursday was the first cancellation on Aguilera's itinerary, although organizers for the Disney event said that they were not notified until late Thursday that Aguilera would be unable to attend.

Aguilera is expected to recuperate in time to participate in the Radio Music Awards in Las Vegas on November 4, and will still shoot her "Christina's Christmas Special" on November 7 and 8 in Los Angeles. The singer just issued an LP of seasonal standards, My Kind of Christmas, earlier this week, and ABC-TV is slated to broadcast her Christmas special on December 8.

Organizers for the Disney Channel promotional event said they are in talks with several other artists to fill in for Aguilera, but had yet to confirm the replacement act as of press time.
