L7 Mock Warped, Lilith In The Sky

L7, Sonic Youth, Beck, Beastie Boys, The Artist, Britney Spears, Joey McIntyre, Busta Rhymes, Lauryn Hill ...

Hard-rockers L7 took swipes at both the Lilith Fair and the Vans Warped Tour over the weekend by renting planes in New Jersey and Los Angeles and flying banners over venues occupied by the package tours. At Saturday's Pasadena, Calif., stop of the female-centric Lilith Fair, the Los Angeles band watched in disguise from the Rose Bowl parking lot as a banner reading, "Bored? Tired? Try L7." circled above. On Sunday a banner reading "Warped Needs More Bea---" flew over the Warped Tour stop at Stone Pony Lot in Asbury Park, N.J. L7's Donita Sparks, who said the New Jersey plane company vetoed the original request for "Warped Needs More Pu---," objects to the focuses of both tours, calling them "narrow" and "mediocre." She claimed Lilith fails to fulfill its slogan of "a celebration of women in music," while the Warped Tour's ska- and punk-heavy lineup almost entirely neglects female artists. Spokespeople for the tours were not immediately available for comment.
