Merchant Acts In Short Film
Singer/songwriter Natalie Merchant portrays characters from her 1998 album,
Ophelia, in "Ophelia: A Film Companion to the Album," a short film released
Tuesday on home video. The film was shot in mock-documentary style by Rolling
Stone magazine writers Mark Seliger and Fred Woodward, according to Merchant's
publicist, Carla Sacks. The home video also includes clips of songs from Ophelia
and Merchant's 1995 solo debut, Tigerlily. The former 10,000 Maniacs
lead singer is currently on tour. She'll be at the Oakdale Theatre in Hartford, Conn., on
Thursday (Dec. 10); the Orpheum Theater in Boston on Friday and Saturday; the 9:30
Club in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday and Dec. 16; the Apollo Arena in Philadelphia on
Dec. 18; and the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on Dec. 19-20.
