Leonard Cohen Credited On R.E.M. Tune

R.E.M., Junkie XL, Social Distortion, Billy Idol, Puff Daddy, Patti Smith, Brandy, Monica...

Legendary singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen is given a co-songwriting credit on the song "Hope," from R.E.M.'s new album, Up (Oct. 27). The song is based in part on Cohen's late '60s composition "Suzanne," and the group felt it was only fair to give Cohen credit, according to R.E.M.'s manager. In addition, the European release of the band's new single, "Daysleeper," features three non-album B-sides -- the instrumental "Emphysema," "Why Not Smile (Oxford American Version)" and "Sad Professor (Live In the Studio)" -- but it is unknown if the U.S. version will feature all three songs.
