Kurt Cobain Discusses His Stomach, His Daughter And His Music In This Rare, Uncut MTV Interview

Cobain said he 'couldn't be happier.'

Fellow Nirvana fans: What would you give for nearly 40 minutes of face-time with Kurt Cobain? The chance to ask him all the questions that have been burning in your mind since you heard your first Nirvana track? Well, now you have 'em -- kind of.

We've dug up an uncut, extended MTV interview from our vaults -- pieces of which were used in the 1994 rockumentary "Nirvana: Past Present and Future" -- and it's basically akin to having an intense, in-depth conversation with the "Lithium" singer himself.

From the stomach issues that plagued him throughout his life to his dissatisfaction with the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video to his ruminations on how having Frances Bean changed him, this interview offers a wide-ranging look at Cobain not long before he took his own life.

"I couldn't be happier right now," Cobain said at one point in the interview, reflecting on his family and the state of the band.

Over the next several days, MTV News plans to roll out even more content from our vaults in honor of HBO's newest documentary, "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck," premiering on Monday, May 4. The Brett Morgen-directed film gives a detailed, highly personal look at the life of one of music's greatest icons -- one that MTV has followed since the beginning.

We'll have another rare and amazing clip for you all tomorrow -- in the meantime, chill with Kurt for a while.
