PSA: Taran Killam Started Out As A Singing Heartthrob In This Disney Flick
Taran Killam is probably best known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and for being married to literal goddess Cobie Smulders, but everyone has to start somewhere. The funny-man kicked off his career playing various characters on MADtv and starring as bully turned grandma’s boy Bret in “Big Fat Liar,” but his breakout role (at least according to teenage girls everywhere) was as teen pop sensation Jordan Cahill in Disney Channel’s “Stuck in the Suburbs.”
Jordan had it all: fame, flippy hair (and later, frosted tips) and lots of screaming fans, but, like all angsty teen stars, it wasn’t enough for him. With a little help from two of his fans (Danielle Panabaker, and Brenda Song, who I’m convinced has starred in literally everything Disney has ever produced), Jordan was able to find himself and learn what the true meaning of music is, as every real musician has to do at some point in their career.
In honor of the movie’s eleventh anniversary on July 16, here are all the reasons that Killam was the perfect teen pop sensation.
He showed up on the front cover of magazines.
He knew how to sing emotionally on a merry go round.
With super awesome hair, of course.
Until he cut it and it was a hugeeee deal.
He knew how to interact with fans.
Forced interaction because they stole his cell phone and were messing with his life, but still.
And he could pose for dreamy pics for them to hang up in their lockers.
He even mastered the somehow-looking-cool-while-sitting pose.
This was his wink.
He was a good dancer.
He knew what was really important.
He made beautiful music.
Word on the street has it that that’s not actually Killam singing, but we’re going to pretend it is.
And in the end, he showed everyone the value of staying true to yourself.
