Limp Bizkit, Filter, DMX Announce Family Values Dates

Twenty-eight-stop tour also features Crystal Method, Method Man, Redman.

Family Values tour organizers have announced 28 dates for the second annual edition of the tour, which will feature Limp Bizkit, Filter, the Crystal Method, DMX, Method Man and Redman.

The tour, founded last year by rap-influenced hard-rockers Korn, will kick off Sept. 21 in Pittsburgh and close Oct. 31 in Biloxi, Miss. It will feature elaborate stage designs, light and laser shows, and pyrotechnics for each band.

Rap-thrash rockers Limp Bizkit, industrial-rock band Filter and electronica act the Crystal Method will headline the full trek, with hardcore rapper DMX along for the first half of the tour. After DMX's departure, the hip-hop duo of Method Man and Redman — who will release the collaborative album Black Out! Sept. 28 — will appear on the remainder of the dates. The date of the lineup switch has not been determined; no opening acts have been announced.

The tour marks a reunion of sorts for Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst and Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man. The two collaborated on the song "N 2 Gether Now" (RealAudio excerpt) on Limp Bizkit's chart-topping second album, Significant Other.

Filter frontman Richard Patrick said in April that he was drawn to Family Values because it attracts young fans and because of the musical integrity of its founders, Korn.

"I like what the tour's all about, but it's mainly because we'll be in front of a lot of kids right as our record comes out," said Patrick, whose band released Title of Record Tuesday (Aug. 24). "I respect the guys in Korn for being unique at a [time] when a lot of things out there aren't — a bunch of novelty acts with no substance whatsoever, just a bunch of crap." Korn will forgo this year's tour to focus on recording the follow-up to 1998's Follow the Leader.

The tour's official website, hosted by ARTISTdirect.com, will offer live webcasts, a daily tour diary, photos, interviews, audio, video and chats. The site also will feature online contests, including trips and ticket giveaways.

Last year's 27-date tour mixed jackhammering hard rock and head-battering hip-hop by Korn, German industrial-rockers Rammstein, Limp Bizkit, electro-goth band Orgy and rapper Ice Cube.

The outing attracted nearly 250,000 fans and was hailed by concert-industry observers as one of the most successful package tours of 1998. The outing also spawned a gold-certified live album and platinum-certified home video.
