Ludacris Opening 'Chicken & Beer' Restaurant In ATL Airport

By Tamara Palmer

The next big release from Ludacris just happens to be an edible one. The rapper and Renaissance man has announced his plans to open a new restaurant called Chicken N Beer in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia. “I’m taking my restaurateur footprint into the busiest airport in the WORLD!” he tweeted on Tuesday (January 3). “Hartsfield-Jackson ATL International! Chicken & Beer coming soon!”

The name is a nod to Luda’s successful third album Chicken-n-Beer, a number one offering that sold almost half a million copies in its first week of release in 2003.

Chicken N Beer will be located in the airport’s Concourse D, where it will compete for travelers’ attention with other quick-service choices such as Burger King, Chili’s, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, and Quizno’s. Luda has yet to specify when it will debut – likely a smart move considering that restaurant openings tend to get pushed back as frequently as album release dates change.

Chicken N Beer will be Luda’s second foray into the food world. In 2008, seduced by kung pao lollipops, he licensed the name and pan-Asian concept of Straits from Chris Yeo, a California-based chef and restaurateur, and opened the fifth branch of the restaurant in Atlanta’s Midtown area, which he will soon shutter.

Ludacris will be closing Straits to focus on the new Chicken N Beer location. Straits was a noted celebrity hangout. "As I continue to learn and evolve as a businessman, I am extremely excited to put my restaurateur footprint into a new venture inside the busiest international airport in the World Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport," Luda said in an official statement. "Straits was a great segue into the industry and with Chicken N Beer I can create my own concept. I look forward to expanding my creativity and driving to a much higher plane.”
