Neil Patrick Harris is not here to be your friend or wingman in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Instead, he’s here to screw up kids’ lives and get rich doing it. Netflix released a first look of Harris as the vicious Count Olaf from the popular book series by Lemony Snicket.

In the teaser, which dropped Thursday (November 3), a truly freaky Count Olaf meets the three Baudelaire orphans, and their encounter is less than heartwarming. As he points out, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire “haven’t the faintest idea” how wretched he truly is. Watch the clip below, then reread the series before January 13 when the show comes to Netflix.
