Bruno Mars co-wrote Adele's piano ballad "All I Ask" during the sessions for her 2015 album, 25, but it turns out he's been hiding his own version of the song up his sleeve this whole time.

On BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge this week, the "24K Magic" singer performed a fresh take on the song that would end up making 25's track list. He brought in a lot more than just piano and vocals, singing against chintzy synths and light percussion that harkened back to '90s R&B. There were even finger snaps filtered through reverb.

Mars's cover also made for a perfect reminder that he has the kind of voice that lets him go head-to-head with Adele, even through that key change they wrote together.
