Taylor Swift Secretly Wrote A Country Breakup Song

‘You push my love away like it’s some kind of loaded gun’

Taylor Swift became a full-time pop star with 1989, but she hasn’t forgotten her roots. On Tuesday (November 1), country group Little Big Town released the music video for “Better Man” and revealed that Tay quietly wrote this latest single off their upcoming seventh record, The Breaker.

With lyrics like “I’m probably better off all alone than needing a man who could change his mind at any given minute,” it’s definitely a breakup song for the books. Would you expect anything less from the songstress who blessed us with “Wildest Dreams,” “All Too Well,” and countless other lost-love anthems?

“[Swift] sent us this song and it was one that was very special to her,” Little Big Town singer Karen Fairchild said in a press conference, explaining their decision to keep the credits private. “She said, ‘That’s the greatest honor as a songwriter that you could ever give me is that you don’t want anyone to know I wrote it.’ We knew we would tell eventually, and it was a hard question to dodge for a while. The only reason we didn’t say is because we wanted for you to hear it for what it’s worth, and it’s a beautiful song.”

After the big reveal, Taylor shared her own sweet words for Little Big Town, who’ll be performing live Wednesday night at the CMA Awards. “Feeling really honored that a band I’ve loved for so many years decided to record this song I wrote,” she wrote on Instagram. “Love you guys.”
