Hilary Duff Is ‘So Sorry’ For Her Native American And Pilgrim Couple Costume

Another Halloween, another controversial costume

Just days after Chris Hemsworth apologized for wearing traditional First Nations attire to a party, another celebrity is in hot water for turning a culture into a costume. Hilary Duff and her new boyfriend, personal trainer Jason Walsh, showed up at the Casamigos Halloween Party Friday (October 28) in controversial Native American and pilgrim outfits.

The Younger star even gave fans a preview of her costume earlier last week, when she Instagrammed the “fake gun” that came with her dress.

“I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume,” Hil tweeted Sunday. “It was not properly thought through and I am truly, from the bottom of my [heart] sorry.”

Walsh followed up with his own apology, writing that he “meant no disrespect” and would “not have made that decision in hindsight.”

Cultural appropriation is uncool year-round, but perhaps the couple could turn this Halloween experience into a learning opportunity. May we suggest reading up on the current Dakota Access Pipeline protests, for example?
