Watch The Tense Trailer For Mark Wahlberg’s Boston Marathon Bombing Movie

‘Patriots Day’ brings the hometown hero back to Boylston Street

It's impossible to condense the intensity of the Boston Marathon Bombing into a two-minute clip, but Mark Wahlberg definitely tries in the first trailer for Patriots Day.

The forthcoming drama, which follows the events leading up to and after the explosion of two bombs on Boylston Street during the final stretch of the 2013 Boston Marathon, is now getting the cinematic treatment thanks to Mark Wahlberg, who both stars in and executive produced the film.

In the clip, we see Wahlberg playing a member of the Boston Police Department, and watch as he gets ready for what appeared to be just another day on the job. Familiar faces fill the screen — John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, and Michelle Monaghan also star — and a scene from the finish line precedes the moment of realization that something's about to go very, very wrong.

This marks Wahlberg's latest collaboration with director Peter Berg, whom he last worked with on Deepwater Horizon. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross recently joined the Patriots Day roster as the musical minds working on its score.

Patriots Day will see its wide release on January 13, 2017, but will open in Boston (naturally), Los Angeles, and New York before that, on December 21.
