Marvel’s Luke Cage Takes Down A Hallway Full Of Bad Guys In Action-Packed New Teaser

‘The world is ready for a bulletproof black man’

Netflix debuted an action-packed new teaser for Marvel’s Luke Cage at San Diego Comic-Con Thursday night (July 21) — and we're glad to see that the indomitable Luke Cage is keeping the hallway fight tradition alive. (Though he definitely has the better soundtrack.)

Watch Luke Cage take down a hallway full of bad guys to the tune of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” in the teaser below:

The hype for Luke Cage’s first solo onscreen adventure has been deafening since the beloved Marvel character made his debut in Season 1 of Netflix’s Jessica Jones. But fans of the comic book have been waiting more than 40 years to watch the unbreakable hero-for-hire come to life — and he couldn’t be making a more timely entrance.

During the Netflix panel, executive producer Cheo Hodari Coker emphasized Luke Cage’s importance, both then and now. “There aren’t a lot of African-American superheroes,” he said. “I've been reading comics since I was 8 or 9 years old. Luke Cage stood out. When I think about what’s going on in the world right now, the world is ready for a bulletproof black man.”

Netflix also teased its Avengers — a.k.a. The Defenders — at SDCC. The Defenders will bring together Hell’s Kitchen’s greatest heroes (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) for one super-series. The teaser, which features Nirvana’s “Come As You Are,” ends with the voice of Daredevil’s mysterious mentor, Stick, asking, “You think the four of you can save New York? You can’t even save yourselves.”

So ... yeah ... Netflix can take all of our money. Marvel’s Luke Cage hits Netflix on September 30, 2016.
