Here's How DMX Got Over His Issues With Drake

X recounts the phone call between the two rappers

Back in 2012, DMX was extremely forthcoming about his feelings toward Drake. And they weren't particularly glowing.

"I don’t like anything about Drake," X said on “The Breakfast Club”. "I don’t like his fucking voice. I don’t like the shit he talks about. I don't like his face. I don’t like the way he walks, nothing. I don't like his haircut."

Over time, though, X's feelings have shifted. Notably, his "How's It Goin' Down" was the inspiration for the chorus on "U With Me?" from Drake's April album Views, and vocals from his "What These Bitches Want" were sampled on that same song.

"I did always say that he was a talented lyricist, but I was not a fan — you're right," X explained on an interview back at “The Breakfast Club” on Tuesday. "[It was] another humbling experience. Like, Yo, you didn't like this dude for all the wrong reasons ... For him to take the effort — first, to want to use a song of mine — and then to be man enough to reach out and make that call, homie, hat's off, man. That was a real move."

As for the content of the convo, it was even more eye-opening for the Yonkers great than the call itself.

"He was like, ‘Me and 40, you raised us, man,’" he recalled. "I was like, wow. Here you are, feeling this way, not knowing that [they] love you, son."

Now, finally, it sounds like that love is being reciprocated.

On Tuesday, X also dropped his new single, "Blood Red," which you can listen to below.
