Hear The Gorgeous Bob Dylan Cover Kesha Would Have Sung At The Billboard Music Awards

The singer joined Ben Folds onstage in Los Angeles

Dr. Luke’s label may have allegedly blocked Kesha’s performance at the Billboard Music Awards, but that hasn’t stopped her from honoring her idol Bob Dylan with a moving cover.

Last night (May 18) at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, Kesha joined Ben Folds onstage to cover “It Ain’t Me Babe.” Folds accompanied her on piano, and his backing band joined in on strings for a beautiful, elegant version of the song.

Kesha joined Folds on vocals for “Rock This Bitch,” a semi-improvised bit that turned into a rendition of Kesha’s own song “Sleazy.” She also sang lead vocals on Folds’ song “Still Fighting It."

Kemosabe Records rescinded written permission for Kesha to perform at the BBMAs after rumors circulated that the singer would use her time slot to directly reference her legal battle with Dr. Luke. Though the details of Kesha’s contract have not been made public, it seems likely that Kemosabe only has the power to block broadcast performances, not live concerts like last night’s show or the Humane Society gala performance of Lady Gaga’s “Til It Happens To You."

Upon hearing that Kesha would be barred from the BBMAs, Lady Gaga tweeted her outrage (and likened Dr. Luke to Ursula from Disney’s The Little Mermaid).

Though her movements may still be restricted, Kesha at least has solid support from her friends and fellow musicians.
