Kristen Wiig Definitely Joining 'Anchorman' Sequel

UPDATE: Kristen Wiig is back in Burgundy. The "Bridesmaids" star is now confirmed in "Anchorman 2," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Well, Christina Applegate will certainly be thankful for the extra estrogen.

The (mostly) boys club that is KVWN-TV Channel 4 Evening News may be getting even more of a lady's touch as Kristen Wiig is rumored to be signing on to "Anchorman: The Legend Continues," according to The Wrap.

The news comes from a source close to the production that claims the "Bridesmaids" star may be joining her "Saturday Night Live" pal Will Ferrell for the sequel to the 2004 comedy, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." The script is still being written, though apparently Wiig is being, well, written into it.

If this comes to pass (and if the current plotline stays true through production), Wiig will be playing the love interest of Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), the delusional, perpetually confused and completely lovable member of Ron Burgundy's Action News entourage. Brick may be the #2 quoted "Anchorman" character behind Burgundy himself thanks to his knack for random and bizarre asides and observations such as "Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident."

Kristen Wiig would, of course, fit right into the world of "Anchorman," a '70s fantasia where mustaches are mighty and San Diego stays classy. And the soon-ish start date should fit right in with her schedule, as she recently wrapped both "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and "Hateship Friendship." Bring on the second blonde!

"Anchorman: The Legend Continues" will hopefully be hitting theaters in Oct. 2013.
