In 2010, director Matthew Vaughn ("X-Men: First Class") co-wrote, directed, and self-financed a superhero movie all true-blue comic book fans could believe in, one with swears, huge body counts and a 10-year-old girl who murders criminals.

Now, after a couple years of intense speculation, "Kick-Ass" is getting a sequel, and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Vaughn is shopping it to Universal as opposed to his Lionsgate partners on the previous entry. The actors who brought a wired energy to the characters of wannabe vigilantes Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson), Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), and the foul-mouthed Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz) are all expected to reprise their antics.

Here's the twist: neither Vaughn nor co-writer Jane Goldman will be involved creatively in "Kick-Ass 2," what with being busy wrangling various mutants for their "First Class" sequel. Instead they're handing over the reigns of this beloved property to Jeff Wadlow, director of action-packed "Never Back Down" and horror flick "Cry Wolf," who we can assume shares their enthusiasm for comic book lore as well as their demented bloodlust.

Speaking of bloodlust, have we mentioned that Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s sequel comic book "Kick-Ass 2," which the film will be based on, is even sicker and more whacked – out than the first one?

It features Mindy/Hit-Girl training Dave/Kick-Ass to be a better superhero, but when he discovers an underground Justice League-esque society of costumed heroes (with names like Doctor Gravity and Night-Bitch), Mindy decides to hang up her cape and cowl. That is, until Red Mist (now named Mother F**ker) starts an all-out war on superheroes and New York City.

Now THAT sounds like a proper sequel.

Once all the dealmaking is done, "Kick-Ass 2" is eyeing a September start-date, which is good 'cause Chloe Moretz isn't gettin' any younger, guys.
