Trailer Showdown: 'Runner Runner' Sprints Away With Our Weekly Preview Rankings

Let me hear it loud! Let me hear it proud! Let me hear it -- okay that's enough, it's time for Trailer Showdown. Yessireebob, it's that time of the week wherein we rank the trailers of the week from good to bad, from tasty to terrible, from best to worst all in the hopes of helping you decide what to go see.

This week, there's quite a bit on the end of summer calendar including plenty of thrillers both foreign and domestic, as well as horror sequels, tired old concepts that seem to get made no matter what, and a very moving whale documentary. I know, not fair to tack on that whale documentary, but it really does look moving! Two films this week look so worn out that I'm surprised they even got made: the particularly noxious "The Hot Flashes" and the innocuous (but still boring) looking "The Family".

But enough spoilers, on to the rankings. As always, let us know what you can't wait to see and what you'll be skipping in the comments below.

1.) 'Runner, Runner'

Ben Affleck as a crime boss? Justin Timberlake as a power and money hunger good guy gone bad? Gemma Arterton doing anything ever? This movie looks equal parts thrilling and spectacle, which is really all we demands anymore as we drag our tin cups across our jail bars. Give us something new! Timberlake hasn't proven himself quite yet as a leading man, so Affleck's star power is necessary, but dang it if this doesn't look good.

Starring: Gemma Arterton, Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake

Release Date: Sept. 27, 2013

2.) 'Closed Circuit'

A political drama focusing in on the ever harrowing world of spying and counter-spying, wherein the British Intelligence is accused of manipulating and attacking British citizens, and everyone is being watched constantly. Although they made one huge mistake in casting Julia Stiles, the inclusion of Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall more than makes up for it. This one looks like pure, mysterious fun and I want to see it nowwww.

Starring: Rebecca Hall, Eric Bana, Jim Broadbent

Release Date: August 28, 2013

3.) 'Paranoia'

Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford doing their best to double cross one another and Liam Hemsworth all in the middle of it as a good guy with powerful intentions? Sounds similar to another entry on our list, and powerful all on its own. While I don't have anything in particular against Hemsworth, it just seems as if maybe he's a bit lackluster of a leading man against these two powerhouses. And Amber Heard? Really? We're still on board for that whole thingy? Sigh.

Starring: Amber Heard, Harrison Ford, Liam Hemsworth

Release Date: August 16, 2013

4.) 'The To-Do List'

NSFW: This red band trailer gives us a better look at the contents of the famous sexy list, which one girl (Aubrey Plaza) is determined to work through before starting college. With so many hilarious supporting characters, it'll be fantastic to see if Plaza can handle a leading role all on her own, but I'm thinking this is uniquely perfect for her dry wit and humor. Dirty, in fact -- super raunchy -- so buyer beware, but there's something fun about this one.

Starring: Alia Shawkat, Aubrey Plaza, Bill Hader

Release Date: July 26, 2013

5.) 'Insidious: Chapter 2'

Patrick Wilson and his creepy family are back for another installment of the disturbing horror franchise, "Insidious". This time around, whatever he confronted in the dark underworld has followed him back into the land of the living and continues to haunt and terrorize the family. While there's usually nothing worse than a horror sequel, and I wasn't a big fan of the original, there's something to be said for highly unique horror.

Starring: Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson, Ty Simpkins

Release Date: Sept. 13, 2013

6.) 'Rushlights'

A couple of con artists work their magic and wind up convincing an entire town that one of them is the long-lost daughter of an oil baron, though as the town's suspicions are raised, things turn deadly. This trailer looks like it could be for a movie from 1995, or ten years in the future and I love that about it. People pulling elaborate cons is another majorly awesome aspect, and while overall it looks a little hokey, it could be totally awesome and I want to see it anyway. Aidan Quinn as a detective? Heck yes. Beau Bridges as a cigar chomping sheriff? Even more heck and even more yes. Let's get it on, people.

Starring: Beau Bridges, Aidan Quinn, Josh Henderson

Release Date: June 21, 2013

7.) 'The Family'

A mafioso family is placed in witness protection and relocated to France, and find that they have some trouble fitting in with the locals. See, aren't you tired all ready of this movie? Rather generic looking Robert DeNiro vehicle, unique for the inclusion of Michelle Pfeiffer, whom I thought truly knew better than to get mixed up in something terrible like this. While there may be a few laughs to be found here, overall there's nothing new under the sun and this movie, which looks so fresh and so promising in certain lights will likely become nothing great, yet another September release to be ignored.

Starring: Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones

Release Date: September 20, 2013

8.) 'Haute Cuisine'

A French film that turns a culinary eye inward, taking a look at the rise of a female chef as she prepares food for the French president. The food shots in this playful yet winsome drama look positively stunning, spinning closeups of every kind of delicious food imaginable. DO NOT WATCH HUNGRY. Not entirely sure what the purpose of the film is other than to celebrate food and make us all wish we were French. Perfect.

Starring: Catherine Frot, Arthur Dupont, Jean d'Ormesson

Release Date: 2013

9.) 'Blackfish'

This documentary focuses in on the horrifying state of Orca whales living in captivity, and the deaths caused by one whale in particular -- Tillikum. The debate between whether or not these majestic creatures are meant to live in captivity has never been captured so strongly or emotionally. Steer clear of this one if you can't handle the sads.

Release Date: July 19, 2013

10.) 'Coffee Town'

Dumb small scale comedy from College Humor starring some of the funniest guys around and a Victoria's Secret supermodel. Yeah, it's pathetically small-minded, the story of a guy who basically lives in a coffee shop, but there's something so dumb about this I kind of have to see it anyway to get a good grasp on what's going on here. I'll be mad I saw it, but at least I'll know.

Starring: Glenn Howerton, Steve Little, Ben Schwartz

Release Date: 2013

11.) 'The Hot Flashes'

NOPE. This tired-old-joke stuffed nightmare festival of crappiness barely even deserves a trailer much less a release date, and there's only one reason any of these talented ladies agreed to be in it: mama needs to pay her mortgage. Seriously. Former basketball ladies take on younger basketball ladies for money, they hate their lives, blah blah blah don't see this ughhhh. UGHHHH.

Starring: Brooke Shields, Eric Roberts, Daryl Hannah

Release Date: July 12, 2013
