Watch Fred Armisen and ‘Saturday Night Live’ Pay Tribute to David Bowie

Check out Bowie's legendary 1979 performance.

Former cast member and current “Late Night With Seth Meyers” bandleader Fred Armisen returned to “Saturday Night Live” last night to pay tribute to David Bowie, who passed away earlier in the week.

Armisen described having his life changed by seeing David Bowie play "SNL" in high school, where Bowie appeared with “backup singers that were like choir singers from the future and a toy poodle with a TV in his mouth.” Armisen added, “David Bowie transformed whatever space he was in, whatever medium he was using, and that night for me, he transformed live television,” and then introduced a clip of Bowie playing “The Man Who Sold The World.”

Bowie first appeared as a musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” in 1979. Bowie’s performances from that evening can be found at NBC.com, and you can watch Armisen’s tribute below.
