"The Nekton family have always been explorers. This is what they do."

- Tom Taylor

The deep sea adventures of the Nekton clan are coming at you in CG from French animation studio Technicolor based on Tom Taylor's pair of graphic novels in "The Deep" series.

It's not every day you get an animated series based on a multi-ethnic family of deep sea explorers/geniuses, but that's what's happening with Tom Taylor's "The Deep," which is currently in development. Taylor, a comics vet, has worked on DC's "Injustice" tie-in as well as "Star Wars: Blood Ties" at Dark Horse, with his personal project going in a more lighthearted direction than either of those titles.

According to a press release out of "The Deep" publisher Gestalt Comics yesterday, the animated series is being brought to life by French animation studio Technicolor, who'll be adapting it for the six and up set across 26 episodes. Technicolor's a multi-purpose animation, VFX, and post-processing house which has worked on everything from "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" to "The Penguins of Madagascar" and "Kung Fu Panda" at Nickelodeon" (you can check out their reel below.

No word on when we might expect to see the first episode of "The Deep," but the second OGN, "The Vanishing Island," is out this week from Gestalt Comics. You can check out a preview of the first "The Deep" OGN, "Here Be Dragons" as well as an interview with the series creator Tom Taylor here.
