The Tworse Key Lets Us Tweet Using Morse Code! (video)
At this point Morse code is mostly reserved for sending messages when the world is under attack by an advanced alien species (see: Independence Day) but what if we took this age-old communications technology and mixed it with modern social networking? Well, it would probably look something like the Tworse Key – a strange device that lets us update our Twitter feed using old Morse code.
Created by Martin Kaltenbrunner, the Tworse Key connects to the internet through a standard LAN cable and the Morse signals are decoded by a built-in Arduino ethernet board. The final decoded message is then delivered through the Twitter API. It sounds complicated, but when all is said and done all you really have to do is plug the network cable in and you're ready. Of course, you'll also probably want to brush up on your Morse code as well.
It's a really fun concept and while you can't just run out and buy one of these throwback communicators you can head over here for a full rundown on how to build your own, if you're feeling exceptionally handy of course. You can also see it in action in the video below.
