'Red 2' Targets August 2013 Release, Plot Revealed

If you're a fan of retired and extremely dangerous assassins, you're going to really like this news.

"Red 2," the developing sequel to the 2010 action comedy starring Bruce Willis and John Malkovich as former spies who find themselves on the run after a kill order is sent down the pipeline, officially has a release date. Summit Entertainment has scheduled the movie to arrive on August 2, 2013, just two short months after the release of another DC Comics movie, Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel."

In addition to the just announced release date, we also have a new log line for the "Red" sequel. According to Summit, "Red 2" will "reunite our team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe."

Seeing as the first film ended with Willis' Frank Moses and Malkovich's Marvin Boggs on the run with a stolen nuclear device in the middle of Moldova, one has to wonder if that's where we're going to pick up when "Red 2" rolls into theaters. Really, the story doesn't matter much to me just yet — as long as Malkovich gets to blow up rocket launchers with a hand gun again, I'm way down for whatever Summit and the gang have in mind for the comic book movie sequel.

For her part, Helen Mirren has already said that she's "absolutely" there for another round of "Red." Here's what she told us earlier this year:

Bonus: Summit has also announced release dates for "Warm Bodies" and "Ender's Game." Get the news here.
