It seems like it has been decades since Panic! at the Disco's smash debut album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out took over the rock universe. In reality, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out only came out six years ago, but over that time, Panic! at the Disco have gone through enough turmoil to last a band's entire lifetime. They saw their first album steadily grow, scrapped an entire album, went through the process of creating and living with their difficult second album Pretty. Odd., lost their exclamation point, split with two members, picked that exclamation point back up again and finally settled down to record their third album Vices & Virtues (which will hit store shelves on March 29).

On Tuesday (February 8th), the band released the new video for the first single from Vices & Virtues. It's called "The Ballad of Mona Lisa," and in an interesting twist, it's a throwback to the image of the group the world first saw when they debuted. There's a definite steampunk vibe to the clip, and the song itself has the same combination of buzzsaw riffs, punchy percussion and literate, multi-layered lyrics that made songs like "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" and "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" into esoteric hits.

The video runs through traditions of mourning and stages a funeral in an alternative universe that splits the difference between the old west and the Georges Melies silent film "A Trip to the Moon." In the video's key scene, frontman Brendon Urie puts on the make-up, dons the top hat and announces that Panic! at the Disco are back.
