Less than 24 hours after a daring early morning raid on an apartment in the Saint-Denis suburb or Paris, French officials confirmed on Thursday morning (Nov. 19) that the man thought to be the main planner of last Friday's deadly terror attacks, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, has been killed.

According to CNN, French investigators said Abaaoud, 27, was one of two people killed during the raid, in which a woman described as his cousin also died, reportedly after detonating an explosive vest. Abaaoud's remains were identified using prints from his fingers, soles and palms and it is unknown if he also blew himself up or was killed in the barrage of 5,000 rounds fired by police during the raid. The Belgian national of Moroccan origin is believed to have helped plan the coordinated attacks that killed 129 and injured hundreds.

Anti-terror officials told CNN that it was rare that a person so heavily involved with a major operation like Friday's would remain so close to the site of the attack. Eight others were arrested in Wednesday's raid, which was one of hundreds that French and Belgian authorities have made over the past week. Abaaoud had a criminal history, including an arrest in Belgium in 2010 for armed robbery along with Salah Abdeslam, another suspected plotter in the Paris attack who is still on the run.

He was also linked to a disrupted terror plot on a French train in August of this year, in which a gunman was overpowered by passengers. Officials were led to the Saint-Denis apartment on Wednesday after combing through cellphone records and surveillance video that made them suspect Abaaoud was still in Paris, not in Syria as they originally suspected.
