Is This Famous 'Ghostbusters' Ghost Not Going To Be In The New Movie?

Director Paul Feig weighs in on Twitter.

In 1984, we were introduced to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, the library ghost, the subway ghost and Slimer. The OG "Ghostbusters" film quickly became part of pop culture, still remaining a cult classic to this day.

With the upcoming all-female remake, starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, the new "Ghostbusters" is set to premiere in July 2016. As fans anxiously await the movie's release, director Paul Feig dropped a bombshell about the movie on Saturday.

Bloody Disgusting reported the Sedgewick Hotel ghost would make an appearance, explaining, "The IMDb cannot be trusted but, according to the site, 'The Simpsons' voice actor Dan Castellaneta will be lending his talents to Slimer." The article later added an update, claiming, "Bloody Disgusting can exclusively confirm that Slimer will be in the film."

This awesome news, right? Well, it would be — if it were actually true. Feig retweeted Bloody Disgusting's article, adding some seriously bumming news.

Needless to say, the fan response wasn't too happy.

Some people were all kinds of confused.

While others just wanted answers.

A few people shared ~theories~ they had.

But several "Ghostbusters" fans totally understood why the green, mischievous ghost wouldn't make an appearance.

So, what do you think about this sad, potential non-casting announcement? Sound off in the comments!
