Cecily Strong opened November 14's "Saturday Night Live" on a somber note after the tragic events of the previous evening in Paris with a touching tribute where she offered words of support for Parisians in both English and French. "Paris is the city of light, and here in New York City, we know that light will never go out,” Strong said.

The opening was reminiscent of "SNL's" response to the attacks of 9/11, when Mayor Rudy Giuliani and New York firefighters and police officers joined Paul Simon for a rendition of “The Boxer,” leading to a now-legendary exchange where "Saturday Night Live" boss Lorne Michaels asked the Mayor, “Can we be funny?” To which Giuliani responded, “Why start now?”

The rest of the episode skewed more towards the funny, with some stand out sketches and excellent performances by Disclosure, featuring Sam Smith and Lorde; but it's the moment at the beginning with Strong that will make an impact long after the memory of the sketches has faded.
