Kanye West Corrals A-List Guests For SXSW Showcase

By Kathy Iandoli

Kanye West sure knows how to throw a G.O.O.D. party.

While SXSW was pegged for years as an indie rock week-long festival, it has recently become a hot spot for Hip-Hop heads to learn about new artists while still experiencing their favorites. Kanye West took advantage of eager ears by introducing his new G.O.O.D. Music roster to SXSW partygoers on Saturday night (March 19th). The G.O.O.D. Music event was sponsored by Chevrolet and hosted by rising entertainment giant VEVO.

Performances included big names like Jay Z, John Legend, Kid Cudi, Bon Iver, Pusha T and Mos Def and West himself. However, rising stars like Mr. Hudson, Cyhi Da Prynce, Teyana Taylor, Big Sean and Fonzworth Bentley were also included in the lineup. This gave fans an opportunity to see some of their favorite staple acts, while meeting potentially new favorites.

Guests were not just everyday Austin, Texas visitors either, as Beyonce, Diddy, Aziz Ansari, Jimmy Kimmel, Asher Roth, Andy Roddick, Brooklyn Decker, Cassie, LMFAO, TV on the Radio, Oh Land, Shwayze, Danni Pudi and Donald Glover (from Community), De la Soul, and Vince Young (from the Tennessee Titans) were all in attendance.

West, who has been toting the G.O.O.D. Music brand for over five years, has been building his mini empire for just as long. At last year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards, Kanye formally introduced some G.O.O.D. Music members during one of the Award show’s famed ciphers. The rappers included were West, Pusha T of the Clipse, Common, Cyhi Da Prince, and Big Sean. On Kanye’s fifth studio album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he gave singer Teyana Taylor a huge opportunity to flex her chops, as Taylor sang background vocals on several tracks. She too is currently rumored to be signed to G.O.O.D. Music, previously signed to Pharrell Williams’ Star Trak label. However, a debut album from the MTV Super Sweet Sixteen alum is still nowhere to be found.

While the G.O.O.D. Music event was exclusively sponsored by Chevrolet, perhaps VEVO will release videos of the star-studded evening soon.
