Jack White Tells Musicians To 'Quit Playing Video Games'

Jack White may not have stopped tracks from his bands The White Stripes or The Raconteurs from showing up in Guitar Hero sets, but he does have a problem with aspiring musicians spending too much time with a controller. Asked to give advice to wannabe rockers out there, White cited video games as an obstacle to success.

"They need to quit playing video games, throw away their Auto-Tune program and cut three strings off their guitar," White said in an interview with NME, according to CVG.

White thumbed his nose at the music games genre last year as well, decrying games as a way to introduce people to music.

"It's depressing to have a label come and tell you that ['Guitar Hero'] is how kids are learning about music and experiencing music," he said during a press conference in June, according to MusicRadar.com.

As far as platforms for introducing gamers to new musical acts and tracks, I think the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series have done their job. White probably has a point if anyone thinks they're going to blaze their way into a stadium-packing tour just by using a guitar controller and not learning any chords, but anyone playing "Guitar Hero World Tour" for such reasons is probably a bit delusional.
