Alison Pill Replaces Ellen Page In Lesbian Werewolf Love Story, 'Jack And Diane'

Last year it was speculated that Page was leaving the long-in-development project when her name went missing off the film’s IMDb page. Now, there’s official confirmation (via /Film) from the website of writer/director Bradley Rust Gray that she has indeed left, and been replaced by “Milk” actress Alison Pill.

So there won’t be a “Juno” reunion, whether because Page is too busy for “Jack and Diane” or, as many presume, because her reps have deemed a lesbian love story not right for her career at this time. But while the film is out a big name in the co-lead, it still has a lot of obvious appeal regardless of who is starring.

Teen werewolves are sure to be the next big thing alongside the "Twilight"-fostered vampire craze. And like that franchise, the story of “Jack and Diane” has a lot to do with sexual longing. It is desire that apparently turns the character of Diane into the supernatural wolf. According to Gray’s statement on his site, “This creature, though grotesque, becomes Diane’s way of saying, ‘I love you so much I want to eat you and put you inside me forever.’”

Meanwhile, there’s also going to be a lot of gross and scary stuff for the horror crowd, with veteran makeup artist Gabriel Bartalos (“Darkman”) on board for the exterior of the werewolf and legendary animators The Brothers Quay (“The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes”) handling the interior transformation.

It is still unknown when “Jack and Diane” will begin shooting, let alone when it will be released, but the film’s IMDb page currently has it slated to come out in 2010.

Are you disappointed that Ellen Page has officially dropped out? Is Alison Pill a good replacement? Do you even care who is starring as long as there’s lots of sex and gore?
