'Awkward.' Actress Desi Lydic Is Half Of Disney Channel's First Gay Couple [Video]

Turns out, when Desi Lydic isn't doling out questionable advice as Palos Hills High School's recently reinstated guidance counselor, Val Marks, the "Awkward" actress is making television history! Lydic had a stint on the latest episode of Disney Channel's "Good Luck Charlie," in which she played Charlie's friend's mom, Susan, who just so happened to be one half of the network's very first televised same-sex couple. Well done, Desi!

Disney first told TV Guide about plans to include a gay couple in the show back in June, noting the intended storyline was "developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness." In the clip from the episode below, which finally aired on Sunday, Charlie's parents, Bob and Amy, are preparing for Charlie's play date with her friend, Taylor. Both parents claim to have met Taylor's mother, but Bob thinks her name is Cheryl while Amy's convinced it's Susan. When the family arrives, it turns out the joke's on Bob and Amy when they realize that Taylor has two moms.

Many have praised Disney's incorporation of the couple, including one of the channel's most famous former stars, Miley Cyrus. "I commend Disney for making this step into the light of this generation," the pop singer tweeted when news of the episode first broke.
